Many organizations today are faced with the challenge of how to disseminate confidential or private information in a secure way. In the Netherlands this is especially true for government institutes since Dutch government recently passed a bill promising digital access to their services by the year 2017. Liferay is of course a solid base to offer personalized content to various users but the question is how to make sure access to sensitive data is secure? In this talk we describe how you can use the Liferay EE SAML plugin to connect to various Identity Providers for user identification. Once a user has been identified we can use Liferay's role management system to decide which information should be opened up to this user. We will talk about the various protocols involved, about the process to connect your Liferay installation to an identity provider and about the benefits and limitations of the Liferay EE SAML plugin. This talk was awarded Best Presentation at the Dutch Liferay User Group event in April 2015.
