Robert De Niro interview with Rajeev Masand I The Irishman
In this interview with Rajeev Masand, recorded in Los Angeles, #RobertDeNiro talks about his role in #TheIrishman alongside old friend #AlPacino. The film, which is directed by #MartinScorsese, famously took over a decade to make. De Niro first came across the book #IHeardYouPaintHouses, which he passed on to Scorsese, and then convinced #JoePesci and Pacino to appear in the film adaptation that Scorsese and him planned to make. Major studios passed on the project because of its $160 million budget, much of which went towards developing a new technology that allowed the makers to 'de-age' their key cast down to their 30s and 40s. #Netflix eventually bankrolled the project. In this interview De Niro talks about getting the project off the ground, about convincing Pesci to come out of retirement, and how he shaped his performance in keeping with the fact that he was playing much younger than his age in much of the film.
